Bespoke Luxury Sleeper Suites Carriage
OVERVIEW
Assenta was approached by a client with a unique challenge: they needed to upgrade and overhaul an existing railway carriage to be used as a luxury sleeper. Due to operational demands, they couldn’t afford downtime in their current service. To meet this challenge, Assenta provided a turnkey solution by sourcing an additional Mk1 Pullman carriage. This allowed the client to continue operations without interruption while we designed and constructed a fully bespoke luxury sleeper carriage.
THE CHALLENGE
The client required an upgraded luxury sleeper carriage that met the highest standards in both luxury and safety, all whilst adhering to strict railway group standards. The existing carriage needed to be replaced, but the client’s operational schedule couldn’t accommodate a lengthy overhaul. They needed a partner who could deliver a fully certified, ready-to-use vehicle within a tight timeframe, while also managing a comprehensive range of services from design to final delivery.
OUR SOLUTION
Assenta took on the role of the main contractor, managing every aspect of the project. To meet the client’s needs, we sourced a Mk1 Pullman carriage, allowing their current vehicle to remain in operation throughout the project.
We assembled a trusted team of associates to handle the specialised work required, including:
Asbestos Removal: Safely stripping the carriage of hazardous materials.
Body and Structural Repairs: Extensive repairs to ensure the carriage’s integrity and longevity.
Bogie Overhaul: Replacing the existing, unfit bogies with overhauled units to ensure smooth and safe operation.
Painting and Livery: Applying the client’s livery to ensure brand consistency and aesthetic appeal.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the client and their designers to ensure the final product met their expectations, all within the agreed timescales and budget.
As the main contractor, Assenta leveraged its extensive knowledge in bespoke railway engineering to manage all aspects of the project. We carried out all engineering designs and modifications, ensuring that every element of the carriage met the rigorous standards required by the railway group. Our work was supported by third-party attestations, guaranteeing that all modifications were certified and compliant.

The finished product was a fully bespoke luxury sleeper suites carriage that exceeded the client’s expectations. Delivered on time and within budget, the carriage was fully certified and ready for immediate use upon handover.
